suncatcher

2019 | Plexiglass/3-D Filament | 2.3’x3.3’

Suncatcher is a plexiglass sculpture project that delves into the combination of technology and the arts. Developed as an exploration of converging different mediums, this chandelier took form through the use of AutoCad, an Epilog Laser Cutter and a 3D Printer. The sculpture explores the mathematical movement of organic shapes, with the design stemming from arching circles connecting with one another at different points. Suncatcher is an acrylic piece that interlocks with itself, creating multiple surfaces for light to reflect off and shine through. While the entirety of the piece is made through the use of technology, it relies on outside light to be properly viewed, making it most effective when placed in full light of the sun.
